Since school began, I’ve been more swamped than usual…. no time for blogging lately!
Back Yard Science!!!
A little ongoing backyard science is going on here. A nice, big spider has moved in. He (or she!) lives on our back porch. He spins the most beautiful orb webs. They are huge! Unfortunately that means that if we are careless, we will walk right through them some days. He’s had to rebuild multiple times due to our not watching where we are going. We are enjoying his rebuilds and are amazed at how He has grown. He has been a bit hard to photograph, but tonight I got a few shots of our friend. A couple of nights ago, before knocking the web down, DS#2 captured moths and flies and threw them into the web so that the girls could observe the spider spinning it’s dinner in webbing and watch him drag it off to another part of the web. It appeared that the spider decided it was time for dinner after the third moth hit the web and it looked as though he ate right then and there. Now that I have some pictures (and perhaps I can get more) we will try to identify this spider.
History Can Be Fun!!!
We had a little spontaneous history fun when DD# decided to make her own bow and arrow. It works pretty well!
And finally….
Music Can Be Dangerous!!!!!
As I was taking pictures of DD3, I found out how dangerous music can be… especially when your DS2 forgets to pick up the capo he removed from his sister’s guitar …and you step on it barefooted (yes, the injured side!) The teeth that you see in this picture were actually sticking straight up for maximum damage potential. I turned it to the side so you could get a good view of what the foot encountered!

Today is our first day of school for our new term. The kids woke up full of enthusiasm and as Murphey’s law dictates, they woke up before me. I never sleep in. Never. I know I need to get up first and get my coffee fix and pray and check my email. I know that and will give up sleep I need to have it. It really helps me to be my best for the kids. Still, it was a good day!

Our school room was not quite at together as I wanted, but we still got down to business. I figure if we waited until it was perfect, we may never get started! First thing in the morning, the table was clear except our pen/pencil caddy. There was plenty of room for the girls to get down to business, and even enough room for an extra student! (isn’t he cute?!)

I am so pleased at how well the girls got down to business. It makes our outlook for the entire year a positive and happy one!

All work and reading was completed with good attitudes (it was just a little rocky with the youngest daughter at first, but we quickly got back on track)
We are tweaking the program a bit here and there this year and hope that we will have a much more enjoyable year because of it. We are adding some things to our history approach and we’ve increased literature. As soon as I get it all figured out (for a few days worth, anyway) I’ll post it here so I can keep track and comment on what works for us and what doesn’t.

The rest of the pictures are just because!!!!!!!

I haven’t done much with this blog yet, but we will be gearing up and being more active in our educational pursuits. Once we get on a roll again, I will be posting more here.
I am TRYING to read Charlotte Mason Companion.
I am only trying because I cannot read it! Yes, I am literate. Fluent in English (it’s written in English!) but my eyes are SO bad that I cannot read it. I think I do okay while reading things on the computer and internet because of the lighting on the screen and the fact that I can enlarge anything I see! Ugh. I guess I need to make an appointment to get my eyes checked, again. My old glasses do not help at all!
